Located in the heart of Loveland, Colorado, the High Plains Environmental Center is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and conservation. You'll be amazed at the variety of ecosystems that can be found at the center, including wetlands, prairies, and woodlands.
History of the High Plains Environmental Center
The High Plains Environmental Center (HPEC) in Loveland, Colorado, is a shining example of visionary collaboration between McStain Enterprises, Centerra, and the Loveland City Council to create a sustainable, mixed-use community focused on conservation and education.
Established by Tom Hoyt, President of McStain Enterprises, and embraced by Chad and Troy McWhinney of Centerra, the HPEC was designed to protect and manage the 275 acres of lakes and wetlands surrounding Houts Reservoir and Equalizer Reservoir for generations to come.
Officially incorporated in March 2001, the HPEC and its supporting organization, the High Plains Foundation, have worked tirelessly to offer educational programs, support sustainable design & ecological restoration, and promote environmental stewardship in northern Colorado. With the backing of the Loveland City Council, the HPEC has grown into a thriving nonprofit at the heart of a unique and eco-conscious community.
